The Scrappy Couture Challenge, organised by Oxfam Dunoon, is encouraging people of all ages to create an item of clothing or an accessory using only second-hand and recycled materials.
From old jeans and unwanted fabric to discarded plastic bottles and puzzle pieces, entrants are being challenged to transform everyday items destined for the bin into wearable works of art.
All entries will be showcased at the Bunkhouse Pop-Up Shop on Dunoon High Street from 25 to 29 September, where members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite creation. The winner will be announced on Oxfam Dunoon's Facebook page on 30 September.
The winning design will take pride of place in the Oxfam Dunoon shop window for a month, with the creator also receiving a £10 Oxfam Dunoon voucher.
Chris Ashley, Manager of Oxfam’s Dunoon shop, said: "Second Hand September is all about showing that the things we already have can be given a new lease of life. We wanted to create a fun challenge that lets people get creative while thinking differently about waste and fashion.
"We're excited to see what people come up with. Whether it's a dress made from old magazines, jewellery made from recycled materials or something completely unexpected, we're encouraging people to be as bold and imaginative as possible."
The competition was inspired by eye-catching outfits created by Chris for this year's Argyll & Bute Volunteer of the Year Awards and worn by Oxfam volunteers Paul Barnard and Jade-Heather Griffiths.
Paul's outfit included a jacket and hat fringed with used clothing price tags, while Jade's dress featured torn plastic bags, paper flowers made from damaged books, jewellery made from puzzle pieces and a handbag decorated with recycled price tickets.
Entry forms can be collected from Oxfam Dunoon from 1 September or downloaded via the shop's social media channels.
Finished creations should be returned to Oxfam Dunoon along with a completed application form and a £5 entry fee. All materials used must be second hand or recycled, with the exception of glue, tape and thread.
