At Oxfam Scotland, we’re proud to support Scotland Demands Better, a powerful new campaign and movement that’s rising across the country. It’s a call to action that says loud and clear: enough is enough.
Too many people in Scotland are struggling to get by. They’re left behind, pushed to the edges of society without a fair shot at a better life. From soaring heating bills and housing crises to incomes that don’t cover the essentials, life is becoming harder for far too many.
What is Scotland Demands Better?
Scotland Demands Better is a united call for change: a movement that will bring thousands of people together to demand a society where every household can thrive. It’s about fairness, dignity, and the essentials we all need to live well:
- A warm, safe home
- Fair wages and good jobs that pay the bills
- Affordable, reliable public transport
- Quality healthcare and education
- Social security that provides a foundation for the future
- A thriving natural environment
This isn’t just about words.
On Saturday 25th October, we hope that thousands of people - from Shetland to Selkirk, Argyll to Angus - will be shoulder to shoulder in Edinburgh to say #WeDemandBetter.
Why is Oxfam Scotland supporting Scotland Demands Better?
We know Scotland’s deep inequalities aren’t inevitable. They are the result of decisions that favour the wealthiest and leave too many people behind. That’s why we’re backing this campaign; because we want political leaders to step up and invest in a fairer, greener Scotland for all of us, not just the privileged few.
Scotland Demands Better matches our mission to fight poverty and injustice at their roots. Together, we can build a society where no one has to sacrifice meals, where everyone has a warm, safe home, and where future generations inherit a healthier planet.
